Pancake Day in Reception

This week in Reception the children have been learning about pancake day and why Christians celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We talked about how it is a special day before the season of Lent begins, and how people traditionally used up ingredients like eggs, milk and flour to make pancakes. The children enjoyed reading pancake recipes to find out which ingredients were needed, and they had a great time discussing and debating which toppings are the best!

Our Book of The Week was ‘The Big Pancake’, a fun, repetitive story about a giant pancake that jumps out of the pan and rolls away, meeting lots of different characters who all hope to eat it! The patterned language made it perfect for joining in, and the children loved retelling the story using their best storyteller voices and lots of expressions.

Well done Reception!
