Who lives in a nest like this?
This week we have been talking about different types of bird nests.
Some birds go to a lot of trouble, building neat little nests out of small twigs woven with grass, then plaster it with mud to help hold it together and line it with moss, leaves and other soft materials.
Others create ‘messy nests’ where they simply drop lots of twigs into the branches until they end up with a very messy pile. You can see messy nests high up in the bare branches of tall trees. To protect their chicks from predators, some birds choose to use hidey holes in buildings or trees, to build their nest.
This week’s challenge was to build a small nest using materials found in the woods, to be able to pick it up and pass the ultimate test of carrying an egg!
