Author Visit - Year 7 & 8

On Thursday our Year 7 & 8 children visited KESW to meet with author Helen Dennis. She spoke about her journey to becoming an author, her writing process and gave some really helpful tips and tricks for our budding writers!

Take a read through of some of write ups about the afternoon from the Year 7 & 8’s themselves:

Dani:
The visit to meet her was very fun. We got to write down our own thoughts, and she signed my book which I bought that she made and I think it is very nice that it was very entertaining. Her books sound amazing which I am going to start reading soon. The book that I bought is about a boy who got stranded and couldn’t remember anything. She is very nice and explained thoroughly about her journey and how we can create our own plans which we did and I wrote very interesting things with my own imagination. We saw an interesting sheet of paper with words that needed to be cracked, it was very hard to read that no professional codebreakers could see what it was. I had a great time and I enjoyed everything about it. It was a once in a lifetime experience and a pleasure to meet a very good author that made very good books.

Elliott:
The Author visit from Helen Dennis was really interesting as I enjoy reading mysteries and she wrote 2 series of them. I bought the first book of her series ‘River of Ink’ and I am really enjoying it. I am on page 58 and I love it. The pieces of paper that the ‘riverboy’ character has drawn on have been pieced together creating a Ouroboros, a snake-like creature with its tail in its mouth, representing everlasting life.I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Bertie:
I really enjoyed the visit from Helen Dennis, I loved the opening. It was so engaging. I also loved the presentation and how interactive it was because I like being active and always thinking. I bought 1 series: ‘River of Ink’ and I really liked the look of the other series: ‘Secret Breakers’. The opening to the 1st series was really interesting, fast paced, with a good hook which is what I love about books. She’s also got my perfect type of genre in books because code breaking and mystery is my thing.
