Gardening with Reception

This week, the Reception children were lucky enough to visit our gardener, Mr Gaszka, in his greenhouse. He showed them around his bountiful, thriving greenhouse and the children were fascinated by all the different plants growing there. They had the opportunity to plant two different varieties of sunflower seeds, including a giant sunflower which could grow up to 200 feet tall!

The kitchen team have also been busy collecting lemon seeds for the children to plant. Mr Gaszka showed the children how to carefully remove the outer casing from the seeds before planting them. The children then planted their seeds and Mr Gaszka will be keeping them safe in his warm, cosy greenhouse. He told us he will let us know when they begin to shoot, which he expects to be around the end of June, so we will return then to check on their progress.

It was such a lovely, hands-on and meaningful experience for the children, and we are very grateful to Mr Gaszka for sharing his time, knowledge and wonderful greenhouse with us.
