Year 5 Poetry

26th February 2016

Year 5 have been reading and discussing the narrative poem ‘The Lady of Shalott ‘ by Tennyson this week.  It is very long but everyone found the story very interesting and very sad. We were all amazed when Elena recited part of a very long poem in Russian! School children in Russia have to learn it by heart. It is called Y Lucamorya and is by famous Russian writer Pushkin. Elena explained it is about a green oak near the seashore. Under the oak there is a wise cat.  When he walks to the right, he sings a song. When he walks to the left, he tells a story. We’re all so impressed Elena learnt such a long poem and shared it with us.
