Upper Prep Technology & AIEmbracing the positive

The intersection of technology and education has never been more critical than in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Our Computing and AI curriculum serves as a powerful catalyst for deepening our pupils’ learning while upholding our pastoral and caring ethos. We collaborate innovatively across all the Bridewell schools on projects designed to enhance the positive impact of technology on children’s achievement in a safe and thoughtful manner.

At Barrow Hills, our Computing and Digital Literacy curriculum encompasses coding, web and app design, and robotics. The digital literacy component empowers pupils to stay safe online while directly fostering critical thinking. It equips them to use technology effectively, responsibly, and ethically.

In an era where the allure of screen time can detract from the wonders of childhood, we ensure that our use of technology has clear and meaningful purposes. From Excel spreadsheets to 3D printers, our pupils develop confidence in the positive application of technology, underpinned by strong moral foundations.

In Upper-Prep, key benefits of our curriculum include:

  • Use of virtual reality headsets and holo cubes within science allows children to explore 3 dimensional models. From organs of the human body to the structure of the atom, this resource helps children to visualise challenging concepts in a more tangible way.
  • Use of chrome books to create slideshows in English on a range of topics- use of Google slides enables children to put together a sophisticated presentation and then develop their confidence and speaking skills by sharing this with their peers

More broadly, as part of the Bridewell Royal Hospital Foundation, we engage in research-based models, collaborating with universities and specialist technology partners to drive bold innovations that benefit all our pupils.

In Prep and Upper Prep, key benefits of our curriculum include the use of data loggers within Science to allow children to access real-time feedback on experiments, and enable them to draw evidence based conclusions from scientific investigations. We are proud to embrace all the positive benefits technology and AI can bring to the learning and achievement of our children, and even prouder to do so without any of the pitfalls.

The future is theirs!
