6th October 2023
Dear Parents,
As I wrote last week’s Bridewell Bulletin entry, I described the clear indications of Autumn that I’d witnessed around the Pre-Prep. While the beauty of the leaves surrounding our grounds continues to develop different shades of red, gold and orange, this week’s Pre-Prep Assembly on the harvest season certainly embraced this. The Pre-Prep children have been busy practising songs with a harvest theme during September. After learning that this time of year is a celebration of the harvest and food grown on the land, Kindy and Reception performed their song ‘Down, down to the Allotment’ and their enthusiasm was palpable throughout Chapel; particularly impressive for our youngest performers’ first Pre-Prep Assembly! Year 1 treated us to an energetic performance as they ran as runner beans whilst singing ‘Bean Harvest’, and Year 2 sang ‘A Farmer’s Life’ with actions accompanying the life of a farmer. If that wasn’t enough to leave us all with a spring in our step, on Tuesday morning, the children finished with a song all together, ‘The Farmer Plants the Seeds’. Before we wrapped up this week’s assembly, Sammy (Reception), Freddie (1R), Ethan (1G) and Joe (Year 2) were all presented with certificates for their Work of the Week. Well done to all of these children.
Wednesday morning was Engagement Day at Barrow Hills for the Pre-Prep children and we met Marnie, the nutritionist from Chartwells, who highlighted the importance of bees and sustainability. Each class then enjoyed a workshop later that morning where pupils made their own hummus.
Next week is Open Classroom on Friday 13th October. The front door will be opened at 2:50pm when parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are invited to come and see their child’s classroom and pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 will be able to show you some of their exercise books from the past six weeks. Children and their parents are then able to head off for the half term break. There will be sign-in sheets on arrival.
Just a reminder that the new Pre-Prep choir, the Larks, for children in Year 1 and Year 2 runs from 8:15am on Tuesday mornings with Mrs Beddington. Just email Mrs Beddington gbe@barrowhills.org if your child is interested in joining. The Larks have been able to lead the rest of Pre-Prep in Assembly as we have been learning a new song with Mrs Beddington and her guitar.
Have a lovely weekend.
