Year 1 Explores the World of Castles

Year 1 has been thoroughly enjoying their topic on castles this term! The children have been busy naming and learning about castle features, exploring different designs, and discovering the innovative methods of defense that evolved over time.

We’ve also discussed the importance of coastal castles, such as Portchester and Dover Castle, and are looking forward to visiting Guildford Castle later this term—a fantastic example of the motte-and-bailey design.

The children have created beautiful castle paintings, each guarded by a noble prince, graceful princess, formidable king, or courageous knight. The display looks stunning, and we are so proud of the children for developing their painting skills and using their imaginations so creatively.

Well done, Year 1!
