Birds can eat a great variety of foods. You will have seen a vast number of options in your local garden centre; mealworms, suet feeders, fat balls, seeds, plus a multitude of different feeding stations!
This week we have been making food for the birds using lard, seed and hooped breakfast cereals. The lard and seed was mixed together using our hands, and then smeared onto large pine cones hanging from our feeding station. The children had differing opinions as to how much they enjoyed this activity, the lard smelt funny… but their hands felt really soft afterwards!
The breakfast cereal was carefully threaded along string to create a garland to be hung on the feeding station.
We look forward to watching and counting the birds next week during our RSPB Birdwatch.
