How do birds build nests without hands? The answer is obviously, “using their beaks and claws”!
But have you ever looked at the intricacy, precision and attention to detail that goes into building a nest?
This week we looked at some beautiful, real birds nests and discussed the materials used, the shape and purpose of a birds nest. The children had some interesting questions about the nests and suggestions of how they would improve those we looked at; roofs were a popular addition!
The children tried their best to recreate a birds nest using small sticks, lichen, moss, feathers, leaves and mud. Unfortunately none of them would hold an egg securely whilst being passed around the fire circle! So it was concluded that birds are amazing and totally brilliant at making nests! Far better than any of us!
