On Monday, our boys hockey 1st team competed in the U13 IAPS Hockey Tournament. Josh (8G), wrote the great match report below summarising their day…
The Barrow Hills 1st team travelled to Charterhouse to play some of the top prep schools in the area at hockey. We started off playing St Andrew’s and although we dominated the game they were a good team and we managed to get a 1-1 draw. After our first match, the next three games we ended up with victories against Lambrook, Beacon and Eagle House. We were second place in the group with just one point less than Edgeborough with two games to go. Firstly, we played Cranmore who were a great team and quickly we let in three goals. After the three goals we woke up and got a couple of short corners from which we pulled back two goals but it was too late and we lost the game 3-2. In the last group stage game we played Edgeborough to see who came top of our group. It was tough but we won thanks to Gabriel’s amazing goal to win and came top of our group which meant we got to play the 4th place team in the other group, this ended up being Seaford. They were a great team but we managed to secure a win with a score of 2-0 to get to the semi-finals. In the semi finals we played Hoe Bridge who were a very good team. We scored within the first 30 seconds but they managed to score one back quickly. Then Gus scored an amazing volley which made it 2-1 to us but as a whole team we fell asleep and they scored a good goal and it went to a 5 minute golden goal and then finally to penalty flicks. Josh, Gabriel and Charlie were brave enough to take the flicks and we scored all three and it went to the second round of penalty flicks where the keeper made a great save to make them win it. After losing out in the semi final we ended in the third place play off where we played Cranmore again. We were extremely tired because we were the only team to not have a break all the way through the tournament. Unfortunately we lost 2-0 and finished 4th overall which was a great result.
A huge well done to all our boys, brilliant effort!
