This week we have been following up on our panto trip with various ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ related activities. The children have been thinking about height; using blocks to build ‘beanstalks’ and compare the different heights. They have used green playdough to model beanstalk leaves to ‘find ways to make 5’ on beanstalk playdough mats, practising their knowledge of number bonds. The children practised their scissor skills by cutting out battlements on card castles and used templates to draw around doors and drawbridges. After practising colour mixing with paint on colour mix mats, they used the resulting colours to print ‘bricks’ on to their ‘castles in the cloud’. Some children also used ‘magic phonic beans’ (dried butterbeans with sounds written on them) to spell out their own words. We finished the week by looking at conditions required for growth, and planting our own beanstalks.
It has been a busy, lovely start to the term!
