Following our successful appeal in 2020, supporting the charity ‘Change 1’s Life’, this year we have decided to support a local charity. Please see below for the three presentations given by Year 8 in Monday’s assembly. Following this, the children in Years 1 to 8 voted for their chosen charity; ‘Challengers’. Challengers provide a fun environment for disabled children and young people across the South East, including Guildford. Their schemes allow children and young people to make friends and have the opportunity to try exciting new activities. At the same time, families with disabled children may use these short breaks to pursue a variety of activities.
Over the remaining three weeks of term, we are encouraging all children to raise money, either by being sponsored for a specific activity at school or home, doing some chores around the house or garden or simply donating some pocket money. They may, of course choose more than one of these options. As this is a Lent Appeal, form teachers have given the children the message that by giving something up, (including their time), or by challenging themselves, they are helping those in need. We want this to be as stress free as possible, hence why we are giving the children options and not being as prescriptive as usual.
We hope that we are soon able to welcome someone into school from this charity to talk to the children about their work and to make it that much more meaningful.
