On Friday 10th February the U11 Netball team participated in the IAPS Small Schools Netball Tournament at Framlingham College. As the tournament was three hours away, we set off the night before and stayed overnight in a hotel. I am delighted to say the girls were a real credit to Barrow Hills, quiet in their rooms, listening to instructions for lights out and sleeping all night: making my job very easy!
The following morning, we had six schools in our section of the draw and Barrow Hills finished 2nd overall, losing only to Littlegarth School. The rules of BEE Netball mean that players must rotate into a different position after each half and the rotations are strict with tournament organisers checking all teams are rotating fairly. Fortunately our girls had been practising shooting during their break times so all were competent in all five positions! The girls proved this by scoring 37 goals between them in 60 minutes.
By finishing in 2nd place we entered the cup competition and faced St Andrew’s Prep in the semi-final. After a strong start and being ahead 2-1 at half time we sadly lost the game 4-2 by full time. The disappointment in the team was high but they battled on in the hope of 3rd place overall. Sadly that was also not to be after they lost the 3rd/4th place play off to Littlegarth School 6-4.
They finished a very respectable 4th place out of 12 schools having had four wins and three losses throughout the day. Very well played Year 6 girls, you were superb.
Aldro: won 6-3
Littlegarth: lost 4-9 (then lost again in 3rd/4th play off 6-4)
South Lee: won 8-6
St George’s: won 7-2
Widford Lodge: won 12-1
Semi Final: St Andrew’s lost 2-4
