Job Description

Resident Matron

Full Time

June or September 2024

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a boarding House Matron to join a dynamic and successful School. We seek to appoint someone who will work flexibly, with warmth and enthusiasm to welcome, guide and support the pupils in our care.

We are looking to appoint a Full Time (term time only) Resident Matron, who, working under the direction of the Housemaster/Mistress will provide excellent standards of care and supervision for both boarding and day pupils in their assigned house(s). He/she will be enthusiastic, compassionate, capable and warm in welcoming, guiding and supporting the pupils in our care in the role of Resident Matron.

The Matron has a unique role within our welcoming, inclusive and supportive community of adults and young people. They will be able to demonstrate the ability, skills and desire to play a key role in the most important aspects of education at King Edward’s: successful development academically, focus on emotional and physical wellbeing, development of co-curricular interests and skills.

As well as assisting in the smooth running of the House, the Matron will ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all pupils under his/her care. However, the School has a fully staffed Medical Centre and therefore, the Matron will not be required to have any formal medical or nursing qualifications. All Matrons are however required to have a current First Aid qualification and may need to dispense medications, for which the School will provide training if necessary.

In return, the role includes on-site accommodation within a boarding house, utilities and all meals on duty without charge.  We also offer a Pension scheme, free car parking and free use of our gym, swimming pool and sports facilities.

The position would suit a friendly, capable and organised person who wants to be fully involved in the exciting life of a busy boarding school. Hours of work will vary depending on the needs of the particular House but will be as laid out in the Job Description.  In addition to a passion for providing outstanding pastoral care and experience of caring for children and young adults, you will need to have use of a car in the event you may need to take pupils to appointments, or in an emergency.

King Edward’s School is a co-educational boarding and day 11-18 school for some 470 pupils, around 30% of whom are full boarders. We are an HMC school and proud of our unique heritage and place among British co-educational independent schools.
