What an incredibly festive end of term it has been! Our staff donned their Santa hats, bought out the glitter, got crafty, put on wellies and went for winter walks, planned a fantastic party day and somehow found the time to write reports and continue lessons right up until 4.30pm on Thursday – although rumour has it there was quite a lot of chocolate involved during the last day!
With a wonderful contribution from the BHCC and further generous donations from parents, the children enjoyed a joyful week of Christmas celebrations.
Years 1 and 2 have had a fantastic couple of weeks enjoying some super Christmas activities. The children made their Christmas cards, wrote letters to Father Christmas, created Christingles, enjoyed party day treats and constructed magnificent crowns.
Tuesday was party day in Pre-Prep and the children came to school in their beautiful ‘home clothes’. They played party games as well as taking part in a festive workshop, sewing a cute robin decoration for the tree. At break time, it began to look a bit like Christmas – there was a flurry of snow in the Pre-Prep garden and a surprise visit from Santa and his reindeer. The children were so excited that he took the time to pop by and wish them all a very happy Christmas!
The Prep Department was no less busy. Years 3 and 4 rose to Mrs Peek’s challenge this week as they kept busy drawing and writing fantastic Christmas cards for a care home in Bordon. The children took great care over their designs and were keen to know who their card would be for to write the recipient’s name in it.
They went for a walk with Toby and Amber (Mr and Mrs Oldroyd’s dogs) around the cross country course and back through the woods with some time to visit their forest school camps. There was a brief moment of panic when Amber took a different route, until she soon re-joined the main party as that is where her treats were! There were treats for the children too as they celebrated Camilo’s birthday with an amazing Minecraft cake.
After break, it was Prep’s turn to enjoy meeting the reindeer and everyone learnt a very interesting fact, that as well as being able to fly, reindeer have only one row of teeth!
Post the excitement of the reindeer and the House quiz, it was time for the Prep children to take part in various art activities, including making decorations and sewing their robins; some children decided they’d like to make them at home… enjoy!
During Tuesday afternoon it was panto time – ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ with Peter Duncan! It was much enjoyed with lots of joining in and groaning!
Carols with snow and a short outdoor performance for parents finished off a super day.
Wednesday was Christmas jumper day and Christmas lunch. Pre-Prep worked up quite an appetite with a wintery walk in the morning. Thank you to the catering team for such delicious lunch and to Mrs Barraud for decorating the refectory so everyone felt festive.
Thank you to all involved, whether it be sponsoring, organising or facilitating, for making this such a fun packed end of term. A really happy time to remember! We hope you enjoy all the photos and videos below.
Merry Christmas to all the children from the teachers, they wish you a fantastic holiday!
