We have had a practical, hands-on week of learning, exploring capacity and the science behind the weather. The children have secured their language – empty, half empty, nearly empty, nearly full and full – whilst filling different containers with water and rice and using labels to identify the correct capacities. The children also tested which bottles had the ‘least’ and the ‘most’ fluids. We spent a joyful afternoon in the sunshine concocting magical potions using coloured water and glitter. Luckily no one was turned into a frog! We also utilised our capacity knowledge during our weather investigation. The children set up a rain gauge station to measure how much rain has fallen. We kept a weather diary for the week and recorded the results. We have had various furry visitors to the classroom – Tickle, Pickle and Molly – and enjoyed the sensations of how they made us feel as we stroked them.
All in all a busy week of super learning. It has been lovely to hear that lots of the children have been demonstrating their capacity language at the tea table and in the bath! Great work Reception!
