The Reception children have been looking at ‘doubles’ in their maths lessons this week. We read a wonderful Chinese folk tale, ‘Two of Everything’ about a magic pot that doubles anything that is put in it. It works very well for the poor farmer and his wife – until Mrs Haktak accidentally falls into the pot!
The children used their fingers to find doubles to ten; and then used counters and paper plates to practise doubling and writing out number sentences.
They have also continued with their learning on growth – the beans the children planted sprouted, and they have made little cardboard castles (complete with cotton wool clouds to make it look as though the castles were floating in the sky) to go on top of the sticks the beans will climb up. We’re looking forward to measuring the bean plants as they climb, and seeing how tall they grow!
