The Prep department children have been busy in their Design and Technology lessons this half of term. They had the opportunity to test their culinary skills in their food technology lessons. Each week they choose a recipe and were challenged to create, taste and evaluate their product. The level of baking shown by everyone has been superb.
In their resistant material lessons the children tested their engineering skills with the theme ‘boats’. Years 3 and 4 had to design and then build a boat made of kitchen foil. They had to investigate how many pennies their boat could withstand before stinking. Not only that, their boats had a final test on the stormy seas – or waves created by dropping objects into the bath water!
The older children were challenged to build a boat from recycled materials that would hold one of their school shoes. They researched what materials they had access to and then designed and created rafts, canoes and even cargo ships.
Mr Conway commented:
“A huge well done to everyone that took part this term. The creativity and organisation skills shown in all the projects have been really impressive.”
