We are delighted to share with you those children who were interested in becoming and have been nominated by their form groups as ‘Eco Warriors’. These children, as a group, form the Barrow Hills Eco-Committee who meet monthly to discuss ideas, communicate the progress of our school’s focus and ensure the rest of the school community is kept up-to-date. The Eco-Committee is a ‘green’ version of our school council. Our initial focus this half term has been reducing energy use, by being more aware of any lights that are left on unnecessarily and making an effort to turn any lights off when not needed around the school. The other focus being waste, with every class now having a recycling bin for paper and an allocated paper recycling bin under the archway.
For any child wanting to improve our environmental stamp over the Christmas period break, can you build a ‘Bug House or Hotel’ using recycled goods or natural materials for our school? We will use these at school to help provide a home for insects and in return the insects will increase biodiversity, pollinate plants, and prey on pests. Mr Conway and the DT Department will allocate a lesson to decorating these with more natural materials when we return. There will be a prize for the most creative ‘Bug House’ when we get back!
Have a read through these links for some ideas on building bug hotels.

We will be placing these around the school grounds and preparing the gardens with some flowers that honeybees enjoy next term. Have fun.
