As waterproof coats become a ‘must have’ outside, we are starting to explore hibernation, how some animals get ready for the winter months, and the big sleep.
Last week we all pretended to be hedgehogs, fattening ourselves up on a diet of insects, worms, berries and juicy slugs. Yum!
Following our meal, we curled up on the ground, under the hedgerow and in tree hollows, covering ourselves in leaves and shrubbery to keep us warm and protected during the cold ‘months’. The children took turns at being the hedgehog and found the activity hilarious. They loved being covered in leaves! Then we stood around the leafy pile and pretended to be the spring sunshine, slowly warming the earth, watching our ‘hedgehog’ wake up from hibernation.
We went on to make our own ‘hibernation crowns’ using only the best quality leaves.
Please remember to pack a waterproof jacket and trousers for your child, we go out in all weathers!
