There is a definite autumnal feel about the weather this week. The mornings and evenings are feeling cooler as the Autumn Equinox approaches. Boxes of tissues have started to appear around school as the first seasonal sniffles begin, time to boost our immunity!
This week in the orchard we have been collecting apples to make apple juice. Apple juice is one of the most nutritious juices, containing vitamin c and various minerals including iron and calcium. The juice has many health benefits, including; heart health, digestion and a much needed boost to our immunity!
We walked down to the orchard and everyone collected at least one apple they thought looked juicy. Returning to school the children chopped their apples into small pieces, then fed them into the juicer, watching as the skin, flesh and seeds were separated and the juice appeared.
Reactions to drinking the juice varied amongst the children, some enjoyed the sharp appley taste, others found it “spicy!”
Hopefully they all received a boost to their immunity that will hold back the sniffles a little longer.
