This week, Year 7 children had their first financial and business literacy class. They are taking part in the Junior Young Enterprise Challenge, learning about managing finances, creating and planning products, market research, sustainability, marketing, teamwork, communication and problem solving. This will culminate in a market being held at the end of the term (date tbc) where the teams will sell their wares to their peers, staff and parents.
There are also a number of prizes to award, from the team with the most profit, the most sustainable team and the best presented stall.
Whilst the aim is to make as much profit as they can, the children are encouraged to think ethically and sustainably. They will have the opportunity to make a positive contribution to society and give back when choosing how to use their profits for social good.
Next week, the children will be deciding on what they want to create, come up with a company logo and allocate specific roles within the business.
