At the Chiddingfold Pony Club Show, it was a 4th in the dressage and a 4th in the 1st Ridden showing classes that qualified Max (5R) and his pony Nantcol Easter Promise (Rummie) for the Sunshine Tour Championships at Hickstead to be held in September. He also came 8th in the Veteran class, although his pony, aged 26, behaved rather badly. (Max says Rummie was cross that he was entered in a class for oldies!).
Next was an individual win! PC triathlon (running, shooting, swimming) where Max also won the best shoot score in his section. An awesome day.
As a member of the Chiddingfold dressage team he came 2nd individually and helped the team to 3rd place during half term. On the second weekend of half term Max competed in a ‘dry’ tetrathlon competition – running, shooting, and cross country riding. He scored a PB in competition shooting with 940/1000, despite nearby hens clucking loudly when alarmed by the range master saying “fire”. Max kept his nerve and commented, “it was very scary and very exciting all at the same time… I really couldn’t believe I had done it. Rummie REALLY enjoyed himself, especially the last jump when I just let him whizz”. All this, and an admirable run had Max and Rummie finishing in 3rd place and a team win.
Well done Max for overcoming all your riding nerves and building up your shooting strength, following the riding accident that resulted in you breaking your collarbone.
