Hugo (4G) and Emilia (4R) interviewed Mrs Tennant this week and produced an excellent write up of their conversation.
How did you decide to become a teacher?
Even as a child Mrs Tennant would love helping out and spending time with little ones, and she did lots of nannying and babysitting as she got older. After a psychology degree she decided that teaching would be the best way for her to make a difference to young people’s lives, teaching them and guiding them to be the best they can be.
What qualifications do you have?
Mrs Tennant has a psychology degree and a PGCE.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
The favourite part of Mrs Tennant’s job is chatting to children about home life, what they enjoy and having a bit of a catch up on the playground.
What’s your least favourite part of the job?
Wet play at break time is the least favourite part of Mrs Tennant’s job because the children need a run about, the teachers need a cup of tea and the classroom ends up a mess.
Tell us something interesting about yourself we might not know.
Mrs Tennant loves to travel and she spent eight years teaching in Malaysia, enjoying all the travel opportunities of South East Asia and beyond.
What’s your favourite food?
Mrs Tennant’s favourite food is lasagne in all its forms.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Mrs Tennant’s favourite holiday destination is Bali, and she has visited over 20 times. Mrs Tennant met her husband in Bali and later married there. She has enjoyed many wonderful yoga classes in Bali, followed by an ‘attempt’ at surfing and a chilled coconut on the beach – heaven!
Do you have any pets?
Mrs Tennant doesn’t have any pets.
If you could have dinner with three famous people (past or present) who would they be and why?
Mrs Tennant would like to have dinner with Queen Victoria because she’s fascinated with this period in history. She would also like to dine with Princess Diana and David Attenborough.
What is your greatest achievement?
Mrs Tennant’s greatest achievement was running a boarding house of over 60 teenage girls. Being housemistress to the girls was lots of fun and there was never a dull moment, but it was also a very busy time.

What book are you currently reading?
Mrs Tennant is currently reading ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ By Delia Owens.
What was your favourite subject at school?
Mrs Tennant loved most of her subjects at school, but especially history. She went to Barrow Hills as a child and loved to learn, but was a bit of a perfectionist and hated making mistakes.
Is there anything you would like to learn to do that you cannot do?
Mrs Tennant would like to learn to play the piano. She started lessons a few years ago, but gave up because she was so busy being a housemistress.
