This week in Reception the children have been looking at the number 4 and number 5. The children have been singing ‘Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer’ and have enjoyed making their own ‘flying saucers’. They were very surprised and amused to find a flying saucer piloted by ‘aliens’ aka Mrs Harris and Mrs Reed.
The children have continued learning their sounds and practising blending – making simple words on their boards with magnetic letters and learning to read ‘green’ words.
They have also continued to explore the season, with Outdoor Classroom sessions in the woods and activities with conkers, such as using large tweezers to ‘free’ over seventy conkers from a sticky ‘web’ of masking tape. They have also found a range of interesting wildlife in the outside play area, including a large and magnificent Pale Tussock moth caterpillar which was studied closely through a magnifier.
Reception children have also enjoyed a range of creative activities, including experimenting with making leaf imprints in homemade spiced playdough. This made the classroom smell enticingly of ginger and cinnamon. They have also had fun making Christmas cards (yes – Christmas cards – but shhhh it’s a secret!).
