It was lovely to have the Reception children back at a distance after the Easter break, full of enthusiasm and excitement for their learning.
This week the children have enjoyed watching videos from their teachers and working on their reading and writing skills. After listening to the story ‘The Giant Jam Sandwich’ they made their own imaginary ‘jam sandwiches’ and caught a range of interesting things in them… fire breathing dragons, bugs, bees, cats and even an olive!
They enjoyed working on estimating in maths, and made their own ‘estimation stations’ from natural objects found in their gardens. Some of the children continued their learning by putting it to practical use, estimating how many raspberries or chickpeas they had at snack time.
The children also enjoyed their arts and crafts and outdoor classroom activities: celebrating St George’s Day by making St George and his dragon from leaves, twigs, petals and stones. We started our ‘Down the Garden Path’ project by making Matisse-inspired minibeasts from coloured paper, card and recycling.
The children also enjoyed their PE lesson, with some children donning their Barrow Hills PE kit before taking part.
Well done Reception – a fabulous first week!
