Well here we are, the last week of learning from home and our families have been magnificent. Next week, most of the class will bound through the doors with a hundred things to tell us and eager to get on with normal life. Others may be a little hesitant. But all will benefit hugely from the social interaction and a return to routine. We are planning a gentle settling in period with lots of fun activities and plenty of opportunities for play.
This week’s Tapestry posts have been a joy with the children sharing lots of lovely photographs and videos. We have explored the effect salt has on ice, making the ice melt faster, creating cracks and holes. The children added food colouring to highlight where the salt had ‘eaten’ away the ice. We also used colour to make water walk. The children used paper towels and food colouring to make the water move from one glass to another. Our budding scientists were fascinated and the experiments turned into whole family affairs as siblings got involved. The children updated us with the progress of their germination projects and were very proud of their sprouting seeds.
The class has been putting all our sound and writing practise to the test by designing ‘best party ever’ invitations. Venues included the zoo and the Bat Cave. The dress code included capes and bunny ears. And the entertainment included bears, bouncy castles and unicorns! Terrific imagination Reception! After reading the poem ‘Witch Witch’, the children were challenged to concoct a witch’s brew. Our children did not disappoint, dreaming up ingredients such as frog burps, dragon eyes and fox guts! Lovely!
The week ended with our wonderful celebration of World Book Day with the children sharing their costumes during a live fancy dress parade.
