For us Brits, the weather is a national obsession and we do like to moan about it being too hot, too cold, the rain and the wind! But this weekend, children and parents alike will hopefully have revelled in the opportunities for fun offered by the snow. There is something magical about waking up and seeing our world unfamiliar under a blanket of the white stuff. In these relentless, challenging times a snow day was perfect for lifting the spirits and providing much needed childish escape. Reception children certainly took the chance to go wild, posting photographs of snowmen, ice structures and sledging.
The children have been working hard too. Getting to grips with halving and doubling. Creating symmetrical butterflies. Learning their new speedy sounds and perfecting sentence writing. They have investigated continents and all the different types of nests birds make including cups, platforms and scrapes. They also learnt that the birds even sometimes pinch burrows from rabbits. The children have created paint brushes from leaves and stencilled peapods.
As usual, our Reception class tackle every activity with gusto and naturally look for the enjoyment that can be gained from every task. We can learn a great deal from these resilient, adaptable and joyful small people!
Again, huge thanks to our parents for the time and effort they are putting into the children’s learning.
