The news of a return to physical school has certainly re-energised the children this week and this was very much in evidence during our live get togethers on Google Meet. All felt very grown up and were thrilled to be able to see and wave to their friends, as well as play a game of bingo and listen to stories. We will round off our learning at home with a special session for World Book Day where the children can show off their book character costumes.
Our learning has included writing a thank you card to the Evil Pea for rescuing Supertato, one of our favourite books. In ‘Understanding the World’, we explored how we can grow new apple plants from the pips we would usually throw in the compost. We investigated germination and what the seeds need to sprout. In maths, we have looked at sharing equally using cupcakes, cookies and ice cubes, glasses and straws. As usual, the children grasped the concept very quickly and had fun feeding leaves to minibeasts – fairly of course!
Now that the weather has improved, signs of spring are bursting out all around us. After joining in a virtual spring walk, the children were challenged to choose a flower and complete an observational drawing. Our children love to colour from their amazing imaginations, so for many of them this was the first time they had tried their hand at still life sketching. The fabulous results show just how carefully the children had studied the details of their flowers; all the colours, shapes and textures. We will continue our observational drawing in the weeks ahead. Great job Reception!
