Over the half term break our Forest School area has been completely transformed. Autumn in all its glory has arrived. The entire area has been covered with a thick blanket of yellow leaves, it was like stepping onto custard!
Remember, Remember the Fifth of November! With KS1 and Reception children excited for Bonfire Night, we discussed the Gunpowder plot, the role Guy Fawkes had played and the reason we celebrate Bonfire Night each year. Using stringed conkers we threaded large yellow, red and golden leaves, on top of each other, to create ‘exploding firework’ decorations. We decorated the trees around the fire circle, with the ‘fireworks’, in preparation for our Pre-Prep bonfire.
Nursery children collected five sycamore leaves and by attaching them to a stick, turned them into ‘sparklers’ to wave. We pretended to be rockets being lit and whizzing around the woods before exploding and collapsing on the floor.
On Friday afternoon, Mr Hatcher and I built a bonfire in the Pre-Prep forest school area. The children came up, in their bubbles, to watch the flames, wave glow sticks and sing songs, followed by hot chocolate and rocky road.
What a perfect way to end the week!
