This week in Reception, we have enjoyed reading the traditional tale, ‘The Gingerbread Man’. The children have had great fun acting out the story using masks and the blue rug in the classroom for the river where the Gingerbread Man meets his fate!
We have played Gingerbread Man dice board games, with the children quickly making up their own set of rules to make it more challenging to finally escape the fox and cross the river. In maths, they played a number of counting, sorting, matching and ordering games with Gingerbread Men on the school tablets. The children enjoyed making Gingerbread Men using spiced ginger playdough and gingerbread men cutters, and opened a bakery in the role play area.
At Sports Day, the children took the refrain from the story as their motto, chanting, “Run, run as fast you can…!”
