After a fortnight filled with so many Christmas activities, Wednesday afternoon saw the eagerly awaited whole-school finale of the Santa Colour Run. Organised by Mrs Burnett and funded by our wonderful BHCC, it was hard to tell who was the most excited as children and staff alike donned their Santa Run t-shirts, sunglasses and hats and approached the start line.
Year 1 and 2 were the first to set off and there were squeals of delight as they ran through the yellow and pink starting cannons. Next stop, the blue station manned by an enthusiastic Mr Andrade and Mrs Wood, then on to Mr Behan and Miss Gartland for a vigorous coating of pink. Round the corner for the yellow station where the children braved a coating of yellow by Mrs Burnett and Mr Clarke before heading to the final station where Mr Conway and Miss Holder were aiming high with the green.
Following on from Years 1 and 2 were the children in Nursery, Kindy and Reception and their little legs carried them joyfully round the course.
By the time it was the turn of Years 3 and 4, the school course was a myriad of colours and, with the staff well and truly in their stride, not a single child escaped huge a dousing of colour at each station.
As the light faded, Years 5 to 8 took their turn. This time the colour was iridescent as the floodlights illuminated the course.
One lap was plenty for some of our staff whereas a few of the children had not had enough after 12 laps! As the children crossed the finish line they were rewarded for their endeavours with a medal, a delicious hot chocolate and a snack. Donning a bin bag, to in theory contain the colour and save car interiors, everyone finished the day tired but exuberant!
Thank you to Mrs Burnett who orchestrated the event with military precision. It was a fabulous team effort getting t-shirts on, tidying the children up afterwards, manning the gates, providing the catering, throwing the paint, making holes in bin bags, setting up lights, handing out medals and of course joining in the fun!
The video and photos show the sheer delight of all who took part and once again, huge thanks to the BHCC who sponsored the event.
We do have colour left over… watch this space for Colour Run 2!
