On Wednesday, the Chapel played host to another wonderful termly concert. It had been touch and go as to whether this would actually go ahead given the number of ensembles out due to staff and children absent. Thankfully, enough of the programme was possible; we decided to go ahead as planned, and what a night we had! There were first time solo performances for Year 3 children, new ensembles debuting and a smoke machine and light show that had a generous outing.
Many Year 5 and 6 girls started the year wishing to create bands and since then the Music School has been full of the sounds of rehearsals at break and lunchtime. For the four new girl bands this was their debut performance and it was wonderful to see so many girls not only getting up and singing, but performing as a group and displaying great musicality in all their songs from pop rock to ballads. It takes great bravery to get up and perform in small numbers and all of them should be rightly proud of their performances.
All the soloists on piano or singing performed extremely well. A mix of seasoned veterans and new performers further demonstrating how music is growing at Barrow Hills. It was wonderful to have the encore performed by pianist, Toby (7G), to highlight the talent in our soloists.
Thank you to the music teachers who helped prepare those who performed in the concert.
“This concert has demonstrated once again our belief as a Music Department across the Bridewell Schools, that music is for all. Everyone should have the chance to perform and any musical interest is explored and nurtured. I am always proud of any child that takes the step to perform in front an audience full of parents and their peers. Music helps build confidence and belief in their ability and that passes onto all parts of their development. With music, children at Barrow Hills are being ‘Prepared for Greater Things’. Everyone in the Music Department would like to thank all the performers and those who came to support the children and the school. We look forward to welcoming you to more upcoming events in the terms ahead.”
