What a welcome back after half term, walking into storm damaged woods!
We were advised to stay out of the woods until they had been fully inspected by our Operations Manager and the maintenance team. Windy weather is the only type of weather I won’t venture into the woods in.
Once the whole area had been checked and risk assessments done, we were allowed to go in and see the damage. The floor was covered in broken branches, some big, some small. Each year group spent time identifying the destruction and clearing away potential hazards to our usual use of the woods.
It was a great opportunity to remind everyone of the Forest School way of handling sticks. Drag anything longer than your forearm behind you and if it’s heavy, get help.
Kindy made individual nests out of the fallen evergreen branches, while Year 2 worked hard re-establishing pathways and boundaries. Amazing teamwork!
Dudley, Eunice and Franklin had done their best, but nothing will stop the passion we have at Barrow Hills for our outside classroom!
