Years 7 and 8 benefitted from the expertise of life coach and experienced teacher Melissa Carter today when she delivered a two hour study skills session, designed to help with approaching exam revision. In an interactive and informative way the children learnt about the different areas of study skills: readiness; preparation; organisation; their way of learning; the seven different learning styles; study strategies and values and beliefs.
The children made their own personalised study skills poster and created their own study skills mission statements. Self-care was stressed as particularly important, as well as a no phone revision policy and taking regular breaks. They also discussed taking time to study, even if that means temporarily losing weekend and after school activities.
And the number one tip… if you do not know how much time should be spent on revision or have a topic list… ask your teacher.
Melissa recommends this website to help children and parents learn more about effective revision.
