Symmetry is a fusion of art and maths, and now Forest School!
Continuing with our ‘butterflies’ theme, we’ve delved deeper into our understanding of symmetry. Put simply, something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides. Nature has symmetrical objects in abundance, so knowing about symmetry gives a different perspective of the world around us. Symmetry forms the base of all regular shapes in geometry. It helps us to teach a sense of balance and order to a child.
The children were challenged to make symmetrical butterflies using things found on the forest floor. They could choose whether to use a butterfly template, to help with the size and shape, or go freestyle.
The results were fantastic!
