The UK needs millions more trees to reach its 2050 carbon net-zero target. By digging in with the Woodland Trust we are helping to bring the UK nearer to this important goal. The Woodland Trust wants to make sure everybody in the UK has the chance to plant a tree. So they’re giving away hundreds of thousands of trees to schools and communities. This initiative also links nicely with the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Everyone across the UK is being invited to plant trees from October 2021, when the tree planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.
Following our successful application, we are delighted to be receiving nearly 200 saplings in November. These will include: silver birch, rowan and wild cherry to create a tranquil oasis for birds. Hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, elder, dog rose and rowan which will grow an array of fruits and nuts to produce our own jams, jellies and more. We will also be able to enjoy beautiful blossoms, bright berries and stunning autumn displays.
We hope to involve our Barrow Hills families in the planting of these trees and will be in touch with further details.
