We have all had to adapt to a new way of learning during the last few weeks. One that may have led to a rise in screen time and particularly for many of the older children, more self-discipline and increased intensity as they learn at home. In combination with this, young brains are working overtime trying to make some sense of current way of life. We can all benefit from quieting our minds and taking a little time and therefore we have included some links below that may be useful. More can be found in the ‘wellbeing’ section of our Community Counts page.
Here is a relaxation video, intended to calm your child, feel grounded and able to create a safe place. To reinforce the feeling of calm and safety at a desired moment, encourage your child to create an associated action when listening to the video. This could be giving themselves a hug, stroking their wrist etc… By doing this every time they listen to the video a positive association between action and feeling will be created. In time this simple action alone will be enough to calm your child. Your child can then take this with them everywhere.
Growth mindset – the video link below illustrate how your thinking can change an outcome. Whilst these videos are looking more specifically at how you can apply growth mindset to work, you can actually apply growth mindset to anything. It could almost be described as a superpower. Your child may wish to watch the videos and then challenge their mind to overcome mental obstacles and see how powerful their mind really is.

This final link is one for parents. It is all about the importance of hugging. With the imposed restriction of physical contact right now it’s worth getting in the hugs where we can, and remembering all the reasons they are so important!
