Introducing new well-being evening classes for all at Barrow Hills.
The physical and mental health benefits of yoga are well known and we are happy to introduce you to Ruth Wheeler and Cathy Taylor who will be running yoga and yoga nia classes at Barrow Hills.
The Yogis
Both Ruth and Cathy both live locally and have been practising yoga for many years.
Ruth has been a yogi for 10 years, six years practicing Ashtanga and has experimented with many other forms. She is particularly interested and qualified in Seasonal Yoga and practices Teen Yoga. She regularly attends workshops, festivals and classes to develop her practice. She has attended an ashram in Rishikesh and also a retreat in Gower with The Travelling Yogi. During lockdown she trained in Nia yoga. Ruth lives the philosophy of Creative Seasonal Living, working outside in nature as much as possible, using plant based essential oils to support a healthy life, yoga and working with materials from the earth – wood, stone, clay and metal.
Cathy is a Senior Yoga Teacher and has been a practising yogi for over 12 years, fortunate to have been taught by eminent gurus during this time. Cathy’s teaching emphasises the importance of proper breathing with pranayama practice and she weaves philosophy and mindfulness into her classes.
The Classes
Please note that all classes are suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced, and please bring a yoga mat.
Ashtanga vinyasa yoga – a flowing and active class using breath with movement to strengthen , tone, invigorate, stretch and relax.

Nia – workouts combine 52 simple moves from dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts to energize and enliven – body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Nia is non-impact, practiced barefoot, and adaptable to individual needs and abilities. Move your body “in your way” holistically and barefoot to soul stirring music and shake off any stress and tension in a fun way.

Cost: First ‘taster’ session £5 if pre-booked
Subsequent sessions £10 if pre booked (£90) or £15 “drop in”
Seasonal Yoga is designed to align you with the changing energies of nature and the seasons. A practice that improves physical strength and flexibility and brings balance and harmony to your life. It combines Yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Kung and a modern understanding about body movement, with Traditional Chinese Medicine ideas about the changing nature of the seasons around us, and within.
