In PSHE this week, our activities all focused on wellbeing to tie in with Children’s Mental Health Week. We started by doing some mindfulness exercises such as breathing, listening and finding something in the room we had never noticed before. Year 5 children discovered a lot of new things. Then, the discussion turned to mental health. We talked about the definition of mental health, how to recognise that someone might not feel happy and how to help them.
I was really impressed by their response and ideas and how grown up they were. It was a very successful lesson and I hope they will carry on with the mindfulness exercises to help them focus in class but at home too.
