It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter entry of the year for Reception. What a whirlwind of a year it has been, how far the children have developed and how much fun everyone has had!
The children have taken the various challenges of the year in their stride, showing their growing maturity and resilience.
It has been a pleasure to witness their progress in reading and writing and to see their delight in stories and literature feeding their wonderful imaginations – whether lolling in the trees as ‘panda families’ or digging in the dirt as archaeologists!
They have grown in confidence with their maths over the year, enthusiastically exploring mathematical concepts in a wide range of hands-on activities, whether getting thoroughly messy halving decorations between mud pies, making ‘potions’ to explore capacity or growing and measuring beanstalks!
They have cheerfully braved all weathers in the Outdoor Classroom, making birds’ nests with their ‘beaks’, making dens and exploring all the many wonders of nature.
Their art and craft work has been incredible; from modelling hedgehogs out of clay and matchsticks to making carefully painted ‘magic porridge pots.’ Wonderful collaborative models using just about every item in the classroom have been painstakingly created – and just as cheerfully tidied away again!
In their specialist lessons, they have enjoyed their PE, music and French, learning a wide range of skills and behaviours of use across the whole of the curriculum.
It has been lovely to see the children bonding as a class and learning to work and play together. We have appreciated their kind and helpful natures – whether helping us to locate our own wellies (ahem!), spontaneously opening doors for us as we carry armfuls of books, or politely suggesting ways to get the technology working! (Usually they were right – four-and-five year olds have a very good grasp of how technology works…). They have shown a wonderful curiosity in the world around them, fuelled by exciting school trips to Brooklands Transport Museum and Wellington Country Park, where we were proud of their impeccable behaviour. They have been an absolute joy to teach and we are so proud of each and every one of them!
Thank you, Reception!
