We might not be in school this year, but that is not going to stop Barrow Hills from celebrating World Book Day in style on Friday 5 March 2021! We have an exciting day of activities and fun lined up for all the children, from the youngest in Pre-Prep to those at the top of the school, whether at home or in school.
World Book Day is a fantastic opportunity each year to really focus on the wonderful world of books and reading, arguably the most important life skill you will ever need, whether for learning or for entertainment.
We had arranged a visit from amazing local author, A. R. Hetherington, writer of fantasy, fiction books and creative writing club teacher (find out more about her and listen to a free audiobook version of the first chapter of one of her books here) but we have decided to postpone her visit until later so we can really enjoy the full experience – watch this space for further details!
Instead, we will still be holding our usual fancy dress competition on Friday morning in form time – so start thinking creatively now. Form teachers will take a screenshot or photo of each child in costume to be judged and these will be added to a giant photo collage display for the library. The challenge is to dress as a character from, or a representation of, your favourite book (see if you can choose a book rather than a film if possible) and see if we can guess who you are!
We will also be running a virtual Usborne Book Fayre on the day. A link to the catalogue and a booking form will be sent out shortly and we would really appreciate if you have a look through. Every purchase you make as a parent adds to the school’s free books pot and last year we were lucky enough to receive over £500 worth of books for the school libraries. If there is nothing that takes your fancy, maybe you would consider donating a book or game to the school via our Amazon Wishlist instead.
In addition, there will be many more fun and interactive activities throughout the school day for your children to enjoy!
