For some people, reading is their ultimate form of relaxation and fun. For others, reading can seem like a bit of a chore. No matter what category you fall into, I encourage you to embrace World Read a Book Day on Sunday. Looking back through my own personal Kindle library, I can count upwards of 50 books that I have been lucky enough to find time to read since March – reading has truly been my isolation salvation and I’m happy to make recommendations if you are stuck for inspiration!
World Read a Book Day is the perfect excuse to get lost in a good book. The idea is simply to get your head down and submerge yourself in a book, whether fact or fiction. It is also a great day for encouraging your children, family and friends to read books and raise awareness about the many benefits of reading, from lowering stress, to improving concentration and memory. People who dedicate real time to reading, tend to take part in activities over their lifetime that are more mentally stimulating when compared with those who don’t, as well as showing a slower cognitive decline. Plus, in this day and age of closing borders and limited travel opportunities, books are the perfect inexpensive way of learning more about the world and having fun.
Reading a book gives you the chance to sit in your favourite chair and enjoy some peace and quiet …
You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.
Paul Sweeney
Taking the opportunity this Sunday to enjoy some time out of your day to relax and read will be brilliant for your soul and your mind, and encouraging your children to do the same by setting a good example will give them a great start to the new school year.
