Last week, Year 2 visited Winchester Science Centre. We were incredibly lucky and had the whole place to ourselves as we were the only school booked in for the day, we were told this is very unusual!
We started our trip travelling by minibus to Winchester, the children were very excited when at the top of the hill they could see the white pyramid and sphere in the distance. Firstly, we explored all the exhibits which included space, sound, forces and a crane to name just a few. After spending time exploring, it was time for our workshop on rockets. During this workshop, Year 2 worked in teams to create a space rocket; they looked at what shapes would fly best and why. Their designs were then put to the test.
In the afternoon we had our planetarium session and as we were the only school there, we were able to suggest where we wanted to go in space. The children were very keen to go to the sun and to go to a black hole. The lady running the session said this was the first time she had been asked to do this! We were able to explore inside and outside our galaxy and the presenter was amazed at the children’s fantastic questions.
Well done Year 2 for a brilliant day out.
