Last week, Year 2 began a new topic of ‘London’. The children began by looking at the maps in an atlas, and focusing on a map of the United Kingdom. They then identified England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales on the map and the seas that surround the United Kingdom. They also enjoyed finding other countries where they have lived or have visited on holiday. This week, they have begun to investigate the capital cities of the counties that make up the United Kingdom, particularly focusing on London. They also enjoyed considering each country’s flag.
In art, Year 2 looked at some of the famous landmarks in London, exploring their names, shapes used in the buildings and what the building is used for. The children created some observational drawings of one of the famous London landmarks, which they went on to paint. They all paid close attention to detail when creating their drawings.
In grammar they looked at words that became adjectives using the suffix ‘ful’ and ‘less’; cheerful and useless were both seen as entertaining! The class worked really hard to find the word and then use the correct suffix to make it an adjective.
In maths, the children have continued with three digit problematic addition and subtraction, focusing on regrouping the tens and one when working out the answer. Year 2 have completed some super maths work this week and worked really hard, well done Year 2 it has been a great start to the term. Keep up the good work!
