Year 3 were blessed with beautiful weather for their trip to Butser Farm last week. The children had a truly amazing experience; they picnicked outside and became Celtic children for the day with their amazing guide Louise.
In the Celtic roundhouse, everyone sat around the fire and learnt about how they were built, whilst munching on the homemade sausage rolls made by the catering team.
Year 3 made Celtic jewellery out of copper and carved chalk with flint, colouring it with charcoal, grass and any other coloured vegetation that could be found. They made ‘clunch’ to help build a new wall for one of the outdoor classrooms and some of them even had the chance to sit on a Roman toilet!
Here are some of the children’s favourite bits from the Butser trip.
Bea – I enjoyed being an archaeologist and I loved sitting on the Roman toilet!
Ethan – Making clunch and helping build a wall was great fun!
Laura – Getting messy and building the wall.
Mateo – Sitting around a fire on deer skin in a roundhouse and digging for treasures.
Thomas – Sitting on the deer fluff and visiting the shop!
Ellis – Digging for treasures.
George – Visiting the gift shop!
Felix – Learning how the Roman toilets were emptied!
Jasper – Lunch!
Maxi – Making jewellery.
Kit – Being an archaeologist!
Phoebe – I loved making the earrings, rings and bracelets.
Elliot – Going in the round house and spending pocket money.
Edward – Smashing the chalk (clunching) ready for the daub.
