Year 4 have had a full timetable this week and adapted extremely well to distance learning.
In science, the children have researched their new topic of sound using Espresso. Their Easter holiday task is to design and make a musical instrument from recyclable materials – Mrs Harris has already seen some great plans!
Distance learning has also allowed the children to hone their science skills outside of the curriculum. Jacob (4G) and Tom (1G) have done some additional practical experiments with their dad, including heating up a magnet with a blow-torch to de-magnetise it! They are planning on making an electromagnet, learning about coding and have promised their parents they’ll fix the electric gate!
‘Hit the button’ continues to hone their times tables knowledge – the week at home has seen new champions on the leader board! There has also been some great work on mental arithmetic and fractions.
In English, spellings were tested at home, there was comprehension on Mahatma Gandhi and stories aplenty on ‘The Castle’. Madame Burnett’s French lesson focused on ‘Paques’ and ‘chocolat’.
Mrs Wallace was particularly impressed with Max’s (4R) work on famous Victorians as part of Year 4’s history topic this week.
The last few days have been a big learning curve and Mrs Harris is very grateful for the kindness and compassion that has been shown by parents, children and staff in making this week work, allowing learning to continue in so many different ways.
