Year 4 had an exciting week in DT as they were able to test their fan boats. Creation of the boats was a STEM project, encompassing skills across:
– Science: electrical circuits, materials, forces
– Technology: mechanical systems, electrical systems, designing and making
– Engineering: design, build, test and improve products, how a fan boat works
– Mathematics: drawing 2-D shapes, measurement
As Mr Conway filled the testing pool, the children checked their battery packs were watertight and that there were no lose connections. Success! Only one boat went backwards as opposed to forwards and with some logical thinking this was swiftly resolved!
Elsewhere in the DT department, Year 4 children were baking delicious scones with Mr Clarke and coding with Mrs Poyntz.
Children at Barrow Hills are certainly embracing the attributes in the pupil profile and growing to be “scholarly in the way that they learn and in their love of learning” and “curious about everything”.
