Year 7 are completing their final equation for common entrance how to calculate a moment.
They investigated a moment as a turning force and how this can aid their understanding of the world around them.
Why not have a go at the following:
- Find a door to push open. Push open at the handle, how was that easy? Now try to open it with the same force, however this time pushing it nearer the hinges. Did you find it much harder?
- Can you balance with a parent on a see-saw? Not if you are both sat on the ends! Try asking your grown-up to shift nearer the centre, towards the pivot. You might get to the stage where you get it to balance!
- Want a real challenge? See if you can balance two forks on a toothpick on the edge of a glass!
All of these are nice, easy fun activities, but all the while you are doing physics in action!
